Vicki Conaway (Efuwa Nyarkoma)

Vicki Conaway, affectionately known as Sister Efuwa Nyarkoma, is the visionary founder of The Beauty of Afrikan Sisterhood, a nonprofit organization established in January 2023. Rooted in the spirit of sisterhood and ancestral legacy, her work is dedicated to restoring dignity, hope, and healing to women and families in Ghana and beyond.

She previously served as President of the Mission Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Burlington, NJ, where she opened a children’s playroom at Saltpond Municipal Hospital and, with the support of her church family, shipped barrels of toys, medical supplies, clothing, shoes, and essentials to the Saltpond community.

Vicki’s passion for service deepened in June 2021 when she began raising awareness and funds for women suffering from obstetric fistula, a childbirth injury that has silenced and shamed too many women across generations. Inspired by her belief that no woman should have to live with such pain for life, she has raised funds for life-changing surgeries, transforming the futures of women and their families.

Her unwavering dedication has been honored with multiple awards, including:

  • 2022 Burlington County Outstanding Woman of the Year in Volunteerism
  • Dr. Aaron McMillian Scholarship for Medical Missions
  • 2022 Rancocas Valley Links Mother’s Day Recognition
  • 2023 Exhale Ministries Women of Excellence Award

Vicki’s journey began in her own community, volunteering with the Bus Stop Café, which provided summer meals to children at local playgrounds. Her first missionary project a coat drive for children in foster care gathered nearly 100 new coats, igniting her lifelong passion for mission service.

In 2018, she joined her first short-term mission trip to Haiti, where she and her team hosted a tea for women in the community and distributed solar lights. That experience showed her the profound impact of small acts of love and sisterhood.

Her next mission to Ghana became a turning point, connecting her more deeply with her ancestral homeland. In 2020, she journeyed alone when others canceled due to the pandemic, answering a spiritual call. While visiting a hospital in the Central Region, she was moved by the sight of children in the pediatric ward suffering from severe burns and malaria with no toys to comfort them.

That vision birthed a movement. With her church’s support, she began shipping barrels of supplies filled with toys, clothing, and medical essentials for families in Ghana.

Through The Beauty of Afrikan Sisterhood, Vicki Conaway continues to walk in the footsteps of her ancestors, empowerment for women and children. She reflects the belief that sisterhood unites us, and our ancestors guide us with everlasting strength.”
