Mercy Women's Catholic Center Fistula Unit
The Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital Obstetric Fistula Unit was established in 2009 by the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Coast to serve women in Ghana and beyond who suffer from the devastating condition of obstetric fistula, which causes constant leakage of urine and/or fecal matter.
The unit houses a 45-bed ward, making it the largest obstetric fistula center in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is fully equipped with a theater, recovery ward, and outpatient ward.
Patients are referred not only from across Ghana but also from neighboring countries, while the outreach team journeys into villages to identify women in urgent need of treatment.
Since its inception, the center has performed more than 600 repairs at no cost to the patients.
The Beauty of Afrikan Sisterhood is honored to partner with the Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital Fistula Unit.
Saltpond Municipal Hospital
My relationship with Saltpond Municipal Hospital began in October 2020, during my very first trip to Ghana. When I visited the children’s ward to hand out coloring books, I was heartbroken to see there were no toys for the kids. In that moment, I promised myself I would change that—and with your support, we shipped toys and eventually opened a playroom to bring joy and comfort to the children. Now, we hope to extend this impact by upgrading the hospital’s labor and delivery ward. If you are able, please consider donating to help provide new mothers and their babies with the care and dignity they deserve.
