Obstetric fistula is a childbirth injury caused by a prolonged or obstructed labor. It is a hole between the birth canal and the bladder and/or rectum and occurs without access to emergency medical care.
The Beauty of Afrikan Sisterhood Inc. is a healing-centered organization committed to restoring dignity, wellness, and visibility to Black women affected by reproductive trauma. We focus on raising awareness of obstetric fistulas—a deeply stigmatized and often overlooked maternal health condition—by centering the lived experiences of survivors. Through culturally grounded education, storytelling, and advocacy, we work to dismantle shame and drive compassionate action.
We believe that healing is both individual and collective. Our programs uplift survivors through spiritual care, peer support, and narrative empowerment, creating safe spaces for women to process pain, reclaim their voices, and access the resources they deserve. With every campaign, community gathering, and film we support, we affirm our mission: to break silence, restore dignity, and build sisterhood rooted in justice and joy.
